Examples of Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Provides GIS support to departments within the city through the creation of specialized maps and mapping applications.
- Creates and distributes maps to private engineers, surveyors, and members of the general public.
- Creates and maintains multiple databases such as flood zones, land use, zoning, city limits, soils, hydrology, geology, topography, political districts, storm sewers, and other infrastructure that make up the base mapping for the City.
- Designs, implements and supports web pages and applications hosted on GIS servers; knowledge in Python or Arcade is a plus
- Formulates, designs, and runs complex geographic queries, builds complex topologically structured databases and files; formulates conclusions from spatial analyses; works with staff in the interpretation, analysis, and presentation of technical data.
- Works with staff in the interpretation, analysis, and presentation of technical data; collects and converts GPS or UAS collected data into formats directly compatible with GIS software utilized by the department; designs and creates executable data dictionaries into field collectors; recommends improvements to the data entry system.
- Assumes responsibility for major projects or particularly complex GIS problems in areas of GIS specialization
- Coordinates with outside entities including private engineers and surveyors, Madison County, Limestone County, and the City of Huntsville for approval of street names.
- Reviews legal descriptions for accuracy for LOMR submittals to FEMA, annexations, zonings, and easement/right-of-way vacations or dedications
- Assists in providing pertinent information needed for city projects.
- Manages the assignment and distribution of city addresses and maintain the GIS address database to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Creates and maintains all parcel-related data, including but not limited to parcel splits, parcel numbers, subdivision names, lot and block, addresses, ownership, and flood zone information within City permitting software (NWS).
- Assists with reviewing of new building permits (e.g. plot plans, foundation surveys, elevation certificates)
