Privacy Policy
The GIS Association of Alabama (GISAA) respects the privacy of its members and other visitors to its website, www.gisaa.org. GISAA strongly believes that if electronic commerce and online activities are to flourish, consumers must be assured that information provided online is used responsibly and appropriately. To protect online privacy, GISAA has implemented the following policy. By accessing our websites or providing your information to us, you accept and agree to the practices described in this Policy.
How We Collect Personal Data
Personal Data identifies you as an individual or is information that can be linked to you as an individual (“Personal Data”). Visitors may generally browse public portions of the GISAA website anonymously without providing any detailed information. However, Personal Data is required in connection with membership registration, event activities, purchasing products or services, requesting additional information, signing up for newsletters, or submitting questions through these sites.
From General Users. GISAA does not collect any Personal Data from users browsing its Web site. Only aggregate data -- such as the number of hits per page -- are collected. Aggregate data are only used for internal and marketing purposes and do not provide any personally identifying information. IP addresses are used to analyze trends, administer the site, track user movement and gather broad demographic information.
In general, a visitor will know when Personal Data is being collected because he or she will have to fill out a form.
GISAA does not knowingly collect or use any Personal Data from users under 13 years of age.
From GISAA’s Members, Event Registrants, and Other Customers. To gain access to members-only resources and personalization features on www.gisaa.org, members and other users are asked to register and provide some limited information. This information is submitted voluntarily. GISAA asks users to provide their name, member number (for members), organization name, title, phone, and email. Similar information may be submitted to GISAA through membership applications and event registration.
Additionally, for some emails sent by GISAA to its members through its listserv, we will collect specific information regarding what the recipient does with that email. For those emails, GISAA will monitor whether a recipient subsequently clicks through to links provided in the message. No personal information is connected to this tally of link tracking. GISAA only uses this information to enhance its products and distribution of those products to its members. This information is not sold or distributed in any other manner.
How Does GISAA Use Data Collected?
GISAA uses information voluntarily submitted by members and other customers in the following ways:
GISAA Member Services and Products. Generally, GISAA uses data collected to improve its own web content; to respond to visitors' interests, needs, and preferences; and to develop new products and services.
GISAA Member Directory. GISAA makes member contact information available to other GISAA members through an online Member Directory. This directory is viewable only to other members as a members-only resource, and its primary purpose is to allow for networking within the community.
Disclosures to Third Parties. It is GISAA’s policy to not share information with third parties.
GISAA reserves the right to disclose without notice any information in its possession if required to do so by law, to protect or defend GISAA’s rights or property, or to respond to an emergency.
Credit Card Account Information. GISAA does not disclose credit card account information provided by its members and customers. When members and customers choose to pay using their credit cards, GISAA submits the information needed to obtain payment to the appropriate payment processors (AffiniPay and/or Paypal).
