Join us for our next Lunch & Learn with Joseph Massey from the Alabama Historical Commission. While it’s been two years since last presenting to GISAA, there have been many developments over the years to AHC’s GIS Hub, maps, and program in general.
During this presentation, Joseph Massey will touch on all the developments within the program ranging from the AHC’s Hub, their map, to the agency’s many mapping projects outside of our programs, including AHC’s role in Alabama’s “Sweet Home 250” celebration as America celebrates its 250th birthday in the form of the Alabama American Revolution Patriot Cemetery Project.
Born and raised in Montgomery, Joseph attended Auburn University at Montgomery where he obtained a B.S. degree in Environmental Science and a M.S. degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Over the years, he has both worked and/or interned primarily in the public sector on both the state and federal level relating to both the environmental and GIS sectors, including most recent internships at the AGIO and at the AHC. He has been with the Alabama Historical Commission fulltime since January of 2023 as the agency’s GIS Specialist and Coordinator working to manage the states Historic Preservation Digital Archive and Historic Preservation Map, as well as develop ways to update and grow the AHC’s Historic Preservation GIS program.
