The State of Alabama has funded the Sweet Trails Alabama to develop a statewide trails plan while building partnerships and laying the groundwork for trail development across the state.

This plan will identify and support the expansion of a statewide trail system to boost recreation, tourism, and economic development

Sara Kovachich with Alta Planning and Design will be presenting on the first statewide trails plan.

All types of trails are considered in this planning process and include greenways/shared use paths, natural surface trails (hiking, biking, and equestrian), OHV/ATV, and blueways. As part of the process, the project team will be gathering and creating data for existing and previously proposed trails. This database will help illustrate existing and planned trails throughout the state and identify gaps between existing projects. The goal is to connect all 67 counties as much as possible with trails.

During the lunch and learn, Sara will provide a brief project introduction, show progress to date, and discuss the data gathering process. This will be an interactive session, and we hope to get your thoughts on data gathering. In the meantime, if you have any available datasets of existing or proposed trails of all types, we'd really appreciate it! Any data can be uploaded at this link:
